Marking a remarkably successful run of half a century, the Maryland Seafood Festival (MSF) will be celebrating its 50th annual edition on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, 2017. This unique culinary event will be held once again at Sandy Point State Park, located on the western end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis, Maryland.
The MSF anticipates that 2017’s Maryland Seafood Festival will attract more than 25,000 festival goers over two days of mouthwatering seafood, cooking demonstrations and competitions, live music, kids’ activities, shopping, fireworks, and exhibits. All this will take place on the gorgeous Chesapeake Bay seashore.
Crab Soup Cook-off
Considered the most prestigious contest at the festival, the Crab Soup Cook-off will be held on September 9. It is always the highlight of the Maryland Seafood Festival’s opening day with more than than 1,000 soup fans entering the competition tent to sample the contestants’ soup.
Maryland restaurants and caterers will clash for the title of “Premier Creator of Crab Soup” to capture valuable publicity. The competitors will be able to showcase their establishments in a fierce, but festive, competition.
First, second and third place awards in two divisions, Judges’ and Peoples’ Choice, will be presented in the three soup categories below:
- Cream of Crab
- Vegetable Crab
- Alternative Soup
For the Judges’ Choice Award, a panel of culinary experts will evaluate the soups from the three categories in blind taste tests. Once tallying is done, the top three soups of each category will be given awards.
For the People’s Choice Award, Crab Soup Cook-Off attendees will vote for their favorites from each category. After the ballots for this division are counted, the top three soups from each category are awarded plaques and the privilege to promote their soup as a 2017 Crab Soup Cook-Off Winner.
