The 12th Annual Bands In The Sand concert benefiting the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is on its way to rock Annapolis. Scheduled for Saturday, June 10, 2017, this year’s edition promises to be the best and biggest yet. Bands in the Sand was founded by Dick Franyo, owner of the Boatyard Bar & Grill and CBF trustee. The event has become a beloved city tradition and has raised over $1.3 million to fund CBF’s educational and environmental efforts for the Chesapeake Bay.
More than 10 years ago, Franyo envisioned a charitable event right on the shore with a view of the Thomas Point Lighthouse becoming Annapolis’ best Bay fundraiser – this is how Bands In The Sand got its start. He had already organized the Annual Boatyard Spring Fishing Tournament and Annual Annapolis Maritime Museum Boatyard Beach Bash, which are also very popular and successful.
Chesapeake Bay Foundation
America’s largest estuary, the Chesapeake Bay is home to more than 17 million people and a great variety of wildlife. The CBF has made the commitment to restore the environmental health of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries in the six-state region. Proceeds from Bands In The Sand will fund educational programs, restoration activities, and environmental initiatives intended to influence federal and state policies.
Food & Entertainment
All are invited to attend Bands In the Sand to enjoy an evening on the shore with people who care about the Bay. There will be live music, refreshments, and delicious grilled food available at the event, which will be held at the CBF’s Philip Merrill Environmental Center. Last year, The Wailers provided wonderful music and were considered the night’s highlight. For 2017, three bands will play at Bands In The Sand, and they will play rock, ska, pop, and reggae.
