The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival returns to Annapolis’ Sandy Point State Park on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, 2017. According to promoter Don Hooker, the headlining band will be The Mavericks, who will close the entertainment on Saturday. Guitarist Jonny Lang will cap the blues festival Sunday night.
Raising more than $1 million since being founded in 1998, the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival not only produces great music, but also donates money to local charities. 2017’s beneficiaries are We Care and Friends, which provides services to Annapolis’ homeless and needy, and Special Love, Inc., a non-profit for kids stricken by cancer and their families in the Mid-Atlantic region. Sponsoring Camp Fantastic and over a dozen other programs, Special Love gives youthful cancer patients the opportunity to participate in traditional camp activities and enjoy being children again.
Saturday and Sunday will both have a seven-band lineup, and there are several repeat performers. Jonny Lang entertained in the inaugural year 1998 and has returned five times . Gospel-inspired pedal steel maestro Robert Randolph will be performing for the second time.
Typically, promoter Don Hooker prefers not featuring an act two festivals in a row. He made a special exception this year for The Mavericks, who made their debut at Sandy Point in 2016, because of the way they wowed the fans. Attendance was hurt by heavy rain last year, so he wanted the band to play in front of a full house this year. Below is the lineup and schedule for Saturday and Sunday
