Due to torrential rain and hail, the West Annapolis Gathering and Music Festival originally schedule for May 14, 2016, was postponed. Luckily for those planning to visit Annapolis during the summer, this wonderful outdoor event was rescheduled for Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 12 noon to 9 p.m. Visitors to the city can kick off their weekend by enjoying live music and tasting local fare served from an array of food trucks.
Wine Aided Founding
The West Annapolis Gathering and Music Festival was founded with the help of Greg Ostrowski, who hatched the idea for this event over several glasses of wine. Organizers plan to make it an annual happening held every May. Proceeds from this charitable event will benefit the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
The bands featured at this year’s festival are listed and described below.
Michael McHenry Tribe
Quoting their website: “With the hard hitting, deep infectious grooves of the Michael McHenry Tribe you will find yourself mesmerized in a sea of funky beats, driving rhythms and electrifying melodies.”
Rufus Roundtree and DA BMore Brass Factory
They describe themselves as “a New Orleans Styled Brass Band from Baltimore” and their “leader is a member of the Parliament Funkadelic family and often plays with George Clinton. He brings his funk and soul background and fuses it with his DJ background and creates this Gumbo of Baltimore and New Orleans.”
From Baltimore, Jah Works is a roots reggae band founded by students at Maryland’s Loyola College while studying abroad in Belgium. Their name comes from the song Jah Works by the reggae group, The Gladiators.
Food Trucks and Fun for Kids
What makes the West Annapolis Gathering and Music Festival even more unique is its variety of food trucks:
Pasta la Vista
Rene’s Corner Kitchen
Greek on the Street

JZs Brick Oven Pizza
Chef Mac’s The Artist’s Palate
There will also be A Fabulous Kids Zone. General admission for the festival is free. To purchase food and drinks, a wristband must be purchased: $3 in advance or $6 at the gate. Children under 12 are free.
