Annapolis is a city full of 400 years of history. Downtown Annapolis still has brick-lined streets and hundreds of historical buildings and architecture. There are historical house museums throughout Annapolis telling its history from the 1600’s to the present. Here are a few museums worth adding to your list of things to do while visiting Annapolis.
Historical Annapolis Museum is located at 99 Main St. They are opened Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 5 PM. At this museum you will see idea, historical artifacts and many other displays that will teach you about how people struggled for freedom from 1728 to 1864. This museum building was built in the 1790’s. There is also a fun museum shop to visit while you are there.
William Paca House and Garden is located at 186 Prince George St. in Annapolis. Contact them for their visiting hours at 410-990-4593. This national historical landmark dates back to the 18th century, colonial era. Group and individual tours are available for this lovely upscale high society home. Tours are given ever hour on the hour and last about 40 minutes. You may also tour the gardens. Be sure to visit their gift shop. Annapolis Maritime Museum is located a t 723 Second St. Eastport, Annapolis. Their phone number is 410-295-0104. They are opened from mid-March through December, Thursday through Sunday 11 AM to 3 PM. This building was the last oyster pack plant in the city. It has an 850 gallon aquarium to view, a work boat and has the history of the McNasby Seafood Packing Co. told throughout the museum. Maritime seminars, concerts and other events take place here throughout March through December. Call ahead to schedule your tour.
Banneker Douglass Museum is located at 84 Franklin St. Annapolis. Their phone number is 410-216-6180. This African American Heritage museum is a farmhouse built in 1830. It is fully furnished and tours are available. Please call ahead for more information.
Chase Lloyd House is located at 22 Maryland Ave in Annapolis. Their phone number is 410-263-2723. Samuel Chase, who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, built this Georgian Mansion in 1769. Tours are available March through December. Call ahead for more details.
