Live Arts Maryland proudly presents a rare performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion in Annapolis’ historic and beautiful St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on March 16, 2019. Directed by J. Ernest Green, the Annapolis Chorale Chamber Chorus and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra will perform this timeless classic for only the second time in their history.
Hosted by St. Anne’s Church, Mr. Green and the performers will do their very best to maximize the historic St. Anne’s Episcopal Church’s interior features and acoustics to achieve a sublime performance.
St. John Passion
Considered to be one of the most compelling musical compositions in music history, St. John Passion remains influential today. Written by Bach during his first year as Leipzig’s director of church music, his work had its first performance at Good Friday Vespers on April 7, 1724 at the St. Nicholas Church.

St. Anne’s Episcopal Church
Founded in 1692, the beautiful and historic St. Anne’s Episcopal Church was one of 30 Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland during the colonial period and was the very first church built in Annapolis. The church in Romanesque Revival style that stands today is actually the third built upon the site on Church Circle, Annapolis.
