historic Inn, Annapolis Annapolis’ Mitchell Gallery of Annapolis is proud to present their upcoming exhibit, Robert Indiana: Love and Hope. An American artist associated with the pop art movement, Robert Indiana was born in New Castle, Indiana on September 13, 1928. He is famous for one of the most iconic images from American pop art known worldwide, the LOVE print, which was created for the Museum of Modern Art’s Christmas card in 1965. It was also the basis for the United States Postal Service “LOVE” stamp that was issued in 1973.

Robert Indiana: Love and Hope

The exhibit will be held from March 8 to April 22, 2018 in the Mitchell Gallery, which is located in the Annapolis campus of St. John’s College. It will be a retrospective chronicling Robert Indiana’s artistic career from 1934 to 2017. The exhibit will revolve around Indiana’s original approach of rendering an identical image on print, canvas, and paper, as well as in three dimensions.

The show will feature several pieces of his finest work, including EAT, LOVE, and HOPE. His series Like a Rolling Stone, depicting 1960s cultural figures including singer Bob Dylan, is also featured. His masterpiece, THE ALPHABET, which confirmed Indiana as the world’s most-renowned word artist, will be the highlight of 55 works of art, several of which are being exhibited for the very first time.
