What better way to ring in the Holiday Season by visiting Annapolis and listening to joyful music? December’s first weekend promises to be a feast for your ears with three wonderful events in Maryland’s historic capital city. The Pipes & Drums Concert, State House Holiday Concert, and Handel’s Messiah Concert will lift hearts, and the spirit of sharing will be felt by those inspired.
Pipes & Drums Concert
The U.S. Naval Academy Pipes & Drums Band was founded in 1996 through an endowment from the Class of 1961. An active ensemble in the Academy’s Musical Activities Department, they are the sole active duty pipe band in the Department of the Navy. The only other active duty pipe band in the military is West Point’s Corps of Cadets Pipes & Drums. The USNA ensemble is comprised of bagpipers, highland drummers, and highland dancers.

State House Holiday Concert
You will see the beautiful and historic State House of Maryland while enjoying the singing and music of youth choruses and musicians, all aglow from the lights on the State’s official Christmas tree.

Handel’s Messiah Concert
Honoring an annual tradition, the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club will join the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and soloists from the Metropolitan Opera Company to perform selections from the beloved Messiah by Handel. Conducted by the Director of Choral Activities of the USNA, this moving concert has been televised on PBS across the country. There will be two performances.
