The Maryland Seafood Festival (MSF) marked its 50th anniversary last year, and it is ready to embark on another great half a century on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9, 2018. MSF is a special event held every year at Sandy Point State Park, which is on the west end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis, Maryland.
The festival draws over 20,000 visitors over a weekend by delivering delicious seafood, entertaining cooking competitions and demos, live music, activities for children, shopping, exhibits, and fireworks. Attendees also get to enjoy a spectacular view from a romantic beach on the Chesapeake Bay.
The top competition is the Crab Soup Cook-off, which takes place on September 8. Over time, it has become the most anticipated opening day feature of the Maryland Seafood Festival. As a result, it’s going to be quite crowded. Expect more than 1,000 soup fans to queue up for samples of the competitors’ soups.
For publicity, the best cooks from Maryland-based catering outfits and restaurants will battle it out with pots and ladles to be crowned “Premier Creator of Crab Soup.” Don’t get me wrong. The contestants take it seriously, but the atmosphere stays festive.
There are two divisions, Judges’ Choice and Peoples’ Choice, and there will be awards for First, Second, and Third place for the following three categories of soup:
- Cream of Crab
- Vegetable Crab
- Alternative Soup
For the Judges’ Choice Award, culinary experts will rate the soups from the three categories in blind taste tests. For the People’s Choice Award, guests will get to vote for their favorites from every category.
Charity and Event Details
Part of the event’s proceeds will help fund local non-profit organizations like the Foundation for Community Betterment and YMCA Camp Letts.
