William Paca House and Garden

Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971, The William Paca House and Garden is located in the historic district of Annapolis. The grounds are two acres of serene beauty that was restored to its original grandeur by using archaeology and the backdrop of a 1772 painting of William Paca by Charles Wilson Peale. Paca served three terms as Maryland’s Governor and became one of our country’s founding fathers by signing the Declaration of Independence. Although there were many others, Paca’s is the only colonial garden in Annapolis that underwent a process of restoration of such extent. Administered by the Historic Annapolis Foundation, it is open to the public.

Hogshead (Artisan’s House)

Hogshead was first named Artisan’s House, a 1 and 1/2 story frame structure built upon a brick foundation in Annapolis. Used by American soldiers as barracks during the Revolutionary War, the house became also known as “Hogshead.” Listed in 1973 by the National Register of Historic Places, Hogshead is considered a very important feature of the Colonial Annapolis Historic District. The Historic Annapolis Foundation owns the property, and the organization operates the premises as an 18th-century period historic house museum with re-enactors of the Colonial period.
