The month of July 2019 will bring the beloved History Monday Sunset Sails on one of the graceful 74-foot schooners, Woodwind or Woodwind II. Every Monday a different storyteller will come aboard to tell entertaining tales of Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay as the sun sets.

The dramatic 2-hour cruises from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. deliver breathtaking vantage points of the Annapolis Harbor, United States Naval Academy, Severn River, Chesapeake Bay, and the Annapolis skyline.

History Monday Sunset Sails July 2019 Schedule 

Monday, July 1 and July 29: Tunes & Tales – Annapolis 1750-1783 (6:30-8:30)

Tom Guay (Squire Thomas), musician, novelist, and storyteller, will combine 18th century fiddle tunes and tales to illustrate life during the Golden Age of Annapolis and the American Revolution.

Monday, July 8: Legends & Lore of the Annapolis Waterfront, Dave Gendell (6:30-8:30)

Dave Gendell, a longtime Chesapeake Bay sailor, will tell fascinating stories about the Schooner America, wooden boatbuilding in during World War II, and the people that made Annapolis a world-renowned sailing Mecca.

Monday, July 15: The Key to Annapolis History, Jeff Holland (6:30-8:30)

Jeff Holland, a member of the Annapolis Maritime Museum founding team, believes the key to Annapolis history is the city’s harbor. Using original songs and lyrics, Jeff will tell stories that span 300 years of Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay history.

Monday, July 22: Pirates of the Chesapeake Bay, Heather Ersts (6:30-8:30)

Heather Ersts, a public historian specializing in heritage education, relates tales of pirates who have sailed the Chesapeake Bay for centuries and are still at it today. Learn more about Blackbeard and the town dubbed the “Nest of Pirates.”
