Historic Inn, Hotel, Annapolis, LodgingsYou’ve probably seen the unique two-wheeled vehicles since the early 2000s, but you may have no idea how they work. As Wikipedia describes, “Segway PT is a two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle…PT is an abbreviation for personal transporter.” Many people who have ridden them say they’re fun and offbeat, and that is probably why there are many cities around the world that offer Segway tours, including Annapolis.

How They Work

A Segway PT uses “computers, sensors, and electric motors…to keep the device upright when powered on with balancing enabled. The rider commands the PT to go forward or backward by shifting their weight forward or backward on the platform.” For those who have difficulty walking long distances, a Segway makes it possible to tour parts of a city that they otherwise would not have been able to see.

Annapolis Segway Tour

Aside from having a witty company name, Segs In the City offers Annapolis Safaris via Segway. As their website states, they are “the first and most experienced operator in all our locations” and have been “doing this for more than 6 years! We have the safest track record and are renown for the care and maintenance or our equipment. We are also meticulous about personal service and limit our safari sizes to a maximum of 10 riders per guide to ensure your safety and enjoyment.”

Historic Landmarks

The Annapolis Safari includes seeing these historic landmarks: U.S. Naval Academy, William Paca House, James Brice House, Maryland State House, City Dock, St. John’s College, Hammond-Harwood House, Ogle Hall, Sands House, Pinkney Street, Market House, Shiplap, and St. Anne’s Parish. The Segway tour lasts 90 minutes, costing $60 per person, and a reservation is required. Riders must be at least 14 years old as required by Maryland law. Although no maximum age is enforced, Segs in the City advises, “Riders need to keep in mind that they will be standing the entire time they are on the Safari.”
