arundel-country-fair-blog-gibsons-lodgingsThe 64th Annual Anne Arundel County Fair (AACF) is on its way to Crownsville, Maryland from Wednesday, September 14 to Sunday, September 18. The event promises plenty of family fun out in the fresh air of the countryside.


In 1952, Mrs. Lee of Annapolis began the initiative for the AACF. The Maryland State Fair Board gave their approval, and the first fair was held at the old Labrot Race Track that September. The next year, the fair moved to Sandy Point State Park, where it was held for the next 25 years. In 1984, the fair moved to its permanent site in Crownsville.

Wednesday, September 14 Highlights – Opening Day

The Opening Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., and the Fair Queen Contest and Poultry Princess Contest will start at 7 pm. At 8 p.m. the band Mr. Charisma will perform. It will be “Feed the Needy Night”, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.

Thursday, September 15 Highlights – Senior Citizens, Military & Disabled Day

At 5 p.m., the 4-H Poultry Judging Contest and 4-H Rabbit Skill-A-Thon will be held. Later at 6:30 p.m., Arundel’s Got Talent show will shine with future stars. At seven, you can be a fan cheering at the Light & Heavyweight Draft Horse Pulling Contest and the 4-H Beef Show & Open Beef Show.

Friday, September 16 Highlights – Children’s Day

At 5 p.m. the 4-H Outdoor Skill-A-Thon, 4-H Livestock Skill-A-Thon and 4-H Horse Skill-A-Thon Contests will begin. 5:30 p.m. brings the Barnyard Runners Pig Races. For more thrills, make sure to attend the 6:00 p.m. Antique Tractor Pull.

Saturday, September 17 Highlights – Family Day

At 11 a.m., look out for the Children’s Tug-of-War. For chills, attend the 1 p.m. Scarecrow Judging contest. Don’t miss the Garden Tractor Pulls at 3 p.m. for stiff competition. Catch the 4 p.m. Hog Calling and Call your Man/Lady Contests for laughs.

Sunday, September 18 Highlights

Make sure to watch the 2 p.m. Watermelon Eating Contest. At 4 p.m., the presentation of the “Best In Show” Awards will be held. Cap off the fair with the exciting 5:30 p.m. Dance Team show.
