The Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) has a wonderful motto in keeping with the character of Annapolis: Keeping ART a PART of the Community. To quote MFA: “We bring current and innovative art to the community by providing exhibitions and professional development for emerging and established artists.” Adding, “Our goals are to encourage and promote artists in their career development and to enrich the cultural awareness of visual art in the community at large.”
Organized in 1963, the Maryland Federation of Art is a non-profit and volunteer-aided organization that oversees the Circle Gallery, which houses two distinct spaces for exhibition: the Main Gallery and the Holley Gallery, which was named for a MFA co-founder. The City Gallery opened in June 2001 and has its own exhibition space.
The MFA receives support from the Cultural Arts Foundation of Anne Arundel County, Inc., Maryland State Arts Council, Anne Arundel County, the City of Annapolis and the Friends of MFA. Costs are defrayed by membership dues, sales, and public donations.
The Circle Gallery
A cast iron gate opening onto a wooden boardwalk from State Circle leads to what many consider the finest art gallery of Annapolis. The Circle Gallery’s exhibits are regularly changed, and every visit will bring you a new feast of art to delight your eyes – from photography to paintings to sculpture. Below are two exhibits available in August.
Fiber Options: Material Explorations
Artists living in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico were invited to enter the MFA’s 4th biennial “Fiber Options: Material Explorations” competition. Either 2-D or 3-D original works of art created with fiber are eligible. Selections will be on exhibit from July 14 to August 6, 2016.
From August 12 to September 10, 2016, the MFA will exhibit 2D and 3D pieces depicting a landscape from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Artists from the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico were invited to submit their artwork for this 16th annual “American Landscapes” competition.
